Commodity Code Selection – Customs

If you bring goods in or move goods out of the UK or EU, you’ll need to get the correct commodity code to put on your declaration. To find this, use the trade tariff look-up tool.

If you’re classifying your goods for the first time, you can find out more about ways to help you to find a commodity code. This includes getting advice from HMRC to find the right commodity code.

Commodity Code Selection Step-by-Step

  1. When will the Commodity Code need to be entered?

    You need to enter the commodity code if you are importing shipment goods from a file that contains New Products.

    These are products which are not yet saved in MoveSist.

  2. Where should the Commodity Code be entered?

    Type into the textbox labelled Commodity Code – shown below.

    The number of matching results is displayed in the brackets.

    If you have entered an 8 digit number and there are multiple results all with the same name, there is more than 1 Import Code for this Commodity.  Check the Import Code and select the required code.
